Our Mission
The Quantum Foundry at TIFR Hyderabad is a bold, interdisciplinary initiative—a strategic imperative designed to forge a robust platform for the development of cutting-edge quantum hardware infrastructure. This is a foundational program, engineered upon decades of TIFR’s pioneering core strengths in advanced instrumentation for its materials science and physics programs. We are aggressively leveraging this deep expertise to resolve the most demanding challenges in quantum technology, setting the national benchmark.
Strategic Mandate
The Foundry operates as a strategic nexus, uniting expertise across physics, engineering, and materials science. This industry-led collaborative platform ensures that all core projects are driven by industrial roadmaps. Critically, the Foundry presents an unparalleled opportunity for industrial partners to engage directly with TIFR’s pioneering faculty and staff. This partnership model is centered on translational activity, providing industry access to a depth of national quantum expertise and infrastructure integration that is unmatched anywhere else in the country. The Foundry is dedicated to developing end-to-end capability across three critical pillars:
-
Advanced Manufacturing:
Developing specialised tools and processes, particularly in large-area sputtering and advanced ultra-high vacuum (UHV) techniques, essential for constructing high-performance processors in critical quantum architectures, of superconducting, semiconducting, and integrated photonics solutions.
-
Core Technology Development:
Build innovation capability in crucial enabling technologies required to operate and scale quantum systems for computing, sensing and communication. This includes the development of domestic solutions for Cryogenic Systems, Microwave Control Electronics, Precision Lasers, Plasma Etching and Fabrication Process Flows.
-
Talent Cultivation:
Establish comprehensive hardware training designed to create a skilled, specialized national workforce for the industry.

Support Our Mission
-
Quantum Foundry is an established, cost-effective program already powering innovation. We seek strategic contributions to rapidly deploy state-of-the-art infrastructure, accelerating our industry partners' critical research and dramatically lowering the barrier to success for high-potential startups.
-
To future-proof our quantum ecosystem, we are actively seeking philanthropic and institutional contributions to acquire or build next-generation capabilities, guaranteeing our industry partners remain globally competitive and providing startups with the essential tools to translate breakthrough ideas into market success.
-
The sustained success of the program hinges on retaining its intellectual capital. We require funding to establish a sustainable, competitive remuneration structure capable of attracting top-tier deep-tech talent globally and, crucially, retaining them long-term. This investment safeguards the program’s future value by ensuring continuity in pioneering research and knowledge transfer.
