TIFR Hyderabad actively participates in the Faculty Training Program

Up-skilling and capacity building are at the heart of TIFR Hyderabad’s mission to nurture future scientific talent. As part of the Industrial Training Program for Polytechnic Physics Faculty organised by the UGC Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC), University of Hyderabad, in collaboration with TIFR Hyderabad, a series of lectures and interactive sessions were conducted between May 27 – June 10, 2026. The programme aimed to expose faculty from Polytechnic colleges to contemporary developments in science and technology through didactic lectures, technology demonstration, state-of-the-art laboratory visits and industrial workshops.

TIFR Hyderabad has contributed to this initiative by providing its extensive expertise in science and technologies pivoted around its three key pillars of Life, Light and Matter. Over 30 selected faculty from various polytechnic colleges participated in hands-on workshops and discussions, acquiring advanced skills in emerging area of quantum technologies, quantum sensing, nonlinear photonics, novel material and energy harvesting through light-matter interactions and nuclear magnetic resonance. They also learnt about the impact of translational research and the relevance of deep tech in contemporary world.

The visit to TIFR Hyderabad on June 6, 2026 provided participants with an opportunity to engage directly with the institute’s research environment. The visit commenced with an overview of the institute’s research vision and activities by Prof. M. Krishnamurthy, Centre Director, followed by guided tours of laboratories and research facilities along with engaging discussions on fundamentals and applications of nonlinear photonics and modern laser science.

The programme facilitated meaningful interactions between faculty members, researchers, and industry experts, helping participants strengthen their understanding of emerging scientific disciplines and their technological applications. The training served as a valuable platform for professional development and for fostering stronger connections between academia, research institutions, and industry. The participation of TIFR Hyderabad in this program highlights its efforts towards strengthen the educational ecosystem in country, aligned with national initiative such as the national quantum and semiconductor missions. This programme is part of TIFR Hyderabad’s continued efforts towards teacher training and engagement with MMTTC, after the previously organized TOP-UP and SHAPE programs.
