Research Overview

We are a chemical biology lab that uses an integrated research approach to design and develop chemical and genetic tools to investigate biological questions. Our research is mainly focused on determining the biological roles of innate immune cells in the brain. Microglia, one of the critical immune cells in the brain, are required to maintain a healthy nervous system. Dysfunctional microglia have been associated with various neurological disorders. In our lab, we use various tools to reprogram harmful microglial cells as well as engineer synaptic connections to determine the roles of these cells in the brain, which can aid in developing potential therapeutic approaches.
